Taste matters: The evolution of supplement flavours

TrendsPharmaceuticals

As we commence 2025, the demand for personalized nutrition and supplementation has reached new heights. These health-conscious and informed consumers are reshaping the landscape of dietary supplements, driving innovation in product design and consumer experience. Consumer awareness is driving demand for healthier food and beverage options with functional benefits such as energy boosting and mental focus, while sustainability concerns are leading to increased preference for sustainably sourced and plant-based options.

Holistic and innovative supplementation

The shift toward a more proactive approach to health is unmistakable. Consumers have long moved beyond symptom-based supplementation and embraced a holistic mindset that integrates mental health, cognitive function, sleep, energy and genderized nutrition in their wellness routines. 2025 is also witnessing an evolution in supplement delivery forms. Taste is equally important as texture with vegan gummies or softgel capsules continues to trend, emphasizing convenience, palatability, and aesthetic appeal. To meet the growing demand, manufacturers are focusing on creating supplements that are not only effective but also visually and sensorily engaging in color, taste, shape, and scent.

Colour of the year: Mocha mousse

Each year, Pantone announces a defining color, and for 2025, "Mocha mousse" is taking center stage. Officially named Pantone PANTONE 17-1230, this rich, warm, and grounding hue embodies sophistication and comfort. Its earthy undertones of chocolate and coffee resonate with themes of resilience, authenticity, and indulgence, aligning perfectly with the desires of today’s health-conscious consumers. This year's colour trend is expected to influence not just design and fashion but also dietary supplements. Coffee mocha, as a flavor, holds immense potential. Its familiar yet indulgent profile appeals to a broad audience, making it a natural fit for wellness categories such as cognitive support, energy enhancement, and mood-boosting supplements. Imagine formulations like mocha-flavored gummies for focus and energy or digestive health supplements that pair the rich chocolate taste with complementary flavors like hazelnut or vanilla.

Beyond symptom relief

The supplements of 2025 are more than functional—they are experiential. The rise of mocha and chocolate colors reflects the demand for products that blend efficacy with indulgence, catering to the emotional and sensory needs of consumers. Whether in gut health blends, beauty supplements, or energy boosters, this year’s trends reflect a celebration of personalization, sophistication, and sensory delight.

New flavour trends
